Behind the ATC

This is your all access pass to the second largest running organization in the United States, the Atlanta Track Club (ATC). We want to give you a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to work at the ATC. With a staff of 14, and countless volunteers, you’ll see what it takes for us to put on over 25 events a year, including the AJC Peachtree Road Race (the world's largest 10K), the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day and the Atlanta Marathon and Marathon Relay. You'll stumble upon fun facts, history, tidbits and great race day coverage. The content is mostly lighthearted, and we hope you'll enjoy it! Grab a cup of coffee, sit back and get to know us...

Running Personals

In the 1991 August issue of WINGFOOT, I stumbled upon a column by Reid Champagne called Running Personals. And yes, the personal ads are hilarious. Below, for your amusement, are two of the ads that were featured in the column:

Recreational runner who does not mind at all calling what he does “jogging; in fact, someone who really hates running altogether and is looking for a good excuse to stop, would like to meet someone with similar feelings, who longs to return to the good old days of smoking and drinking to excess. To meet Friday at Longhorn’s for limited conversation and a medium rare porterhouse, backed potato with sour cream and chives, and then finishing off this evening of romance with a slab of Death by Chocolate. Must have paid-up health insurance.

OC (obsessive-compulsive), SA (self-absorbed) ultra-marathoner who’s into moonlight runs (around the clock for four nights in a row) and casual runs along the beach (from Tampa to Pensacola) wishes to meet someone who’s into same for an affair or romance to last ten thousands (at least). Male, female, plant or animal all O.K. Shock therapy O.K. Serial killers O.K., but must enjoy long stretches whee you just sort of mumble incoherently to yourself and these little bizarre images suddenly begin to dance before your eyes late in a run.
